On May 8, 2023, 20-year-old Antonio Carlos Chacon of Antelope, California, was shot and killed during what police say was a narcotics transaction at Firestone Park near Fawn Hollow Way and Firestone Way. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Chacon and his girlfriend had arranged to meet three people; the suspects attempted to rob him at gunpoint. As Chacon tried to flee by driving away, one of the suspects shot him. His vehicle then hit a parked car, which struck a home’s garden wall. Chacon was pronounced dead at the scene; his girlfriend was uninjured.

The Sheriff’s Office identified and arrested three people in connection with the incident: 19-year-old Randall Watanabe named as the shooter, 23-year-old Leah Perez as the getaway driver, and 18-year-old Oscar Silvestre as the person who coordinated the drug deal. The community remembered Antonio as a loving son, brother, and friend who attended Antelope High School and played baseball, basketball and football. A GoFundMe was set up to help his family.
