On April 30, 2023, a mass shooting near the 16000 block of H Street in Mojave, California left four people dead. Among them was 20-year-old Faith Leighanne Rose Asbury of California City. Deputies arriving about 11:21 p.m. found four victims with gunshot wounds to the upper body. Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene; Asbury was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital and died shortly after arrival.
Friends described Faith as resilient and determined, someone who had faced major hardships from a young age but continued to work to improve her life. A memorial service at Canyon Hills Assembly of God in Bakersfield honored her life and the impact she had on those who knew her.
Kern County Sheriff’s Office investigators developed two suspects during the probe: 29-year-old Ricardo Reyes Partida and 27-year-old Jonathan Steven Hernandez. Reyes was arrested and booked into Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility without bail; a warrant was issued for Hernandez, who is alleged to have provided the firearm. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators.
