On April 29, 2023, at about 11:28 p.m., 17-year-old Yzabella Lynn Perez and her 18-year-old boyfriend were sitting in a parked car outside her home on the 34000 block of Princeton Drive in Yucaipa, California, when an unidentified person approached and opened fire. Both teenagers were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries; Yzabella died of her wounds on May 3, 2023. Her boyfriend has since been released from hospital.

Yzabella was a senior at Yucaipa High School who had just completed her credits and was looking forward to prom, graduation and studying to become a veterinarian at Crafton Hills College. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department described the shooting as an isolated incident, has not released a motive and is asking for information about a dark-colored four-door vehicle that may have been involved. No arrests have been announced and the suspect or suspects remain unidentified.

If anyone has information about the shooting or saw a dark-colored four-door vehicle in the area that night, please contact Detective Daniel Shelton at the Yucaipa Station or submit an anonymous tip through the We-Tip Hotline.
