On April 21, 2023, at about 9:31 p.m., officers responding to reports of gunfire near North Central Avenue and First Street in Tracy, California, found 23-year-old Tracy resident Khyrei Currie in the 100 block of East First Street with gunshot wounds. Currie was transported to a local hospital but died during treatment. Investigators determined the shooting occurred at McDonald Park in the 100 block of Central Avenue.

Over the following year detectives developed leads that led to two suspects: 24-year-old Juan Santos of Tracy and 18-year-old Adrian Darbison of Manteca. On May 14, 2024, coordinated operations across multiple cities resulted in their arrests. Both were booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of murder and conspiracy. The investigation is ongoing and authorities continue to seek additional information.
