On January 28, 2023, at about 2:30 a.m., 26-year-old Destiny Sims of Buckeye, Arizona, was fatally shot outside a short-term rental in the Beverly Crest neighborhood of Los Angeles. Sims and two other women, 33-year-old Iyana Hutton of Chicago and 29-year-old Nenah Davis of Bolingbrook, Illinois, were found dead inside a vehicle parked in front of the home after an ambush in which more than 30 rounds were fired. The women had been in Los Angeles to support a Chicago rapper and were returning from bowling when the attack occurred; four other people were wounded, two critically but later survived.

Investigators described the shooting as targeted, though the slain women were not the intended victims, and linked the assault to gang-related activity originating in Chicago. In the months after the killing, three suspects with gang affiliations were arrested in connection with the case and charged with multiple counts including murder, attempted murder, and assault with a semiautomatic firearm; special circumstance allegations were filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The ambush-style attack and the number of rounds fired point to planning and coordination.

Did anyone who knew Destiny or the other victims travel with them or recognize their vehicle that night?
