Peggy Vee Cargill Maier, 77, and her husband Fred Ford Maier died together at their Holliday, Texas, home on Thursday, November 7, 2024. The couple were weeks away from their 60th wedding anniversary on November 29. Peggy was born October 18, 1947, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and was active in genealogy, crafting, and local charities; she crocheted baby hats and blankets for stillborn infants at the local hospital.
The circumstances of the couple’s deaths are described as unclear. Peggy’s death appears on the National Gun Violence Memorial website, which suggests firearms may have been involved, but no arrests, suspects, or an ongoing investigation are mentioned. Fred and Peggy owned a laundromat, farmed and raised Angora and Spanish goats, and were involved with Wichita Falls Faith Mission and Faith Refuge for battered women and children.
A joint funeral was scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls, with burial at Bowman Cemetery. The couple is survived by their daughter Julie Sanders and son Steven Maier, among other family. Does anyone in the Holliday or Wichita Falls communities have information about what happened that day?
