Granville Owen Dennis Jr., 33, was shot and killed on October 18, 2024 during a domestic altercation at a residence in the 2800 block of Holly Hill Drive near Silsbee. Deputies arrived after a 9:15 p.m. report and found Dennis on the kitchen floor with a single gunshot wound to the right eye. The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30-year-old Amy Sue Hammond of Silsbee at the scene and she was booked for questioning; she was later charged with murder and arraigned with bond set at $750,000.

According to the probable cause affidavit Hammond said an argument escalated into pushing and shoving, during which Dennis allegedly slipped and fell near a .40 caliber pistol. Hammond said she fired a warning shot that missed, that Dennis then gained control of the pistol and fired, and that she later regained the weapon and fired while Dennis was seated on the kitchen floor. Detectives continue to process evidence to determine the precise sequence of events.

Dennis, born May 15, 1991, in Lufkin, was a lifelong Woodville resident and a painter who enjoyed cooking, drawing, tattoo artistry, and family. He is survived by his mother Martha Dennis, daughter Annaliese Rose Mitchell, and siblings; funeral services were held October 28, 2024.
