Elias Torres, 33, was shot and killed at a home near Paradise in South Wise County, Texas, on September 8, 2024. The shooting occurred about 4 a.m. on Private Road 3459 while Torres was reportedly with his girlfriend. He was airlifted to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and died that afternoon.

Authorities say the assailant, identified as 33-year-old Jose Diaz-Martinez, entered the residence and shot Torres multiple times before fleeing. Diaz-Martinez was later located by Texas Highway Patrol officers around 8:15 a.m. on U.S. 287 near Clarendon and initially held in Donley County. He faced aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of abandoning a child after leaving his two young children, ages 2 and 6, unattended at a nearby residence; an Amber Alert was issued for the children, who were later found safe. By September 25, Diaz-Martinez was charged with capital murder by terror threat/other felony and held in the Wise County Jail on combined bond of $400,000. Multiple weapons, including the firearm believed to be the murder weapon, were recovered during the investigation.

Torres was described as a business owner and father. Are there community members or witnesses who can add details about Torres, the timeline that morning, or the events at the residence?
