Karen Miles, a 61-year-old African American woman from Missouri City, Texas, was last heard from the night of August 21, 2024. A diabetic who required regular insulin, she failed to report to work on August 22 and was reported missing by family on August 28 after an uncharacteristic absence. She was active in the community, including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Black Heritage Committee.

On August 25 Pearland police arrested 28-year-old Davante Clark driving Miles’ Ford Explorer with stolen Arkansas plates; he had given false identification and was carrying a firearm. Clark and his girlfriend, Maya Taylor, had been living out of a car and frequently parked at the Hometowne Senior Living Apartments where Miles lived. Taylor said she saw Clark approach a gray SUV about 5:30 a.m. on August 22, then later return with the vehicle and direct her to follow him to Roane Park, where he abandoned it.

Skeletal remains found September 9 along Blue Ridge Road near Highway 90 were identified as Karen Miles; the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner determined cause of death was a single gunshot wound.

If anyone knew Karen’s routines at the senior living complex or saw a gray SUV or Ford Explorer around August 22, please share information.
