Erick Alejandro Marin, 17, was shot and killed on August 5, 2024, after a planned confrontation in a drainage area behind homes in the 800 block of Shadow Creek Boulevard in Buda, Texas. Deputies arrived about 5:15 p.m. and found Marin deceased from a gunshot wound.

Investigators say two groups had arranged to meet for a physical altercation. During the fight Marin drew a handgun and fired at a 21-year-old participant. A juvenile from the opposing group returned fire, and the 21-year-old then took that juvenile’s firearm and shot Marin. The Hays County District Attorney’s Office reviewed video and other evidence and concluded the 21-year-old’s actions were justified under Texas law for self-defense and defense of a third person; a grand jury voted to no-bill, so no murder charges will be filed against him. Authorities said some juveniles present could still face charges and the investigation is ongoing.
