Ara Duke, 54, of Pflugerville, Texas, was shot and killed on June 15, 2024, during Round Rock’s Juneteenth celebration at Old Settlers Park. The shooting began about 10:50 p.m. after an altercation between two groups; Duke and another woman, 33-year-old Lyndsey Vicknair of Manor, were described as innocent bystanders. Christopher Duke said he learned his wife had been shot in the neck and torso after returning from the restroom. She died despite immediate medical attention.
Duke was a founding staff member and administrator at IDEA Rundberg; her daughter, Alena Holmes, called her caring and her best friend. Investigators from the Round Rock Police Department, with assistance from the FBI and ATF, said multiple shooters were involved and have been working to identify all responsible parties. Arrests announced by June 27, 2024, included 17-year-old Ricky Thompson III charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second male juvenile taken into custody, and 18-year-old Keshawn Dixon charged with deadly conduct. The ATF offered a $5,000 reward and authorities asked anyone with photos, videos or information to come forward.
Did anyone attend the event who can share photos or video that might help investigators?
