On the night of April 5, 2024, at about 10:15 p.m., Laredo police responded to reports of a person with a firearm at the Siesta Motel, 4109 San Bernardo Avenue. Officers heard gunfire and found 57-year-old Raul Turrubiates with three gunshot wounds—two to the upper body and one to the leg. Turrubiates died after medical attention; this was reported as Laredo’s first homicide of 2024.

Officers observed a red Nissan Altima leaving the motel. The vehicle failed to stop and was pursued to the area of Ryan and Monterrey streets. Three occupants fled on foot; two were captured at the scene and a third, 33-year-old George Gonzalez, was arrested later at his West Olive Street residence. Two others arrested at the scene are 32-year-old Luis J. Olguin and 34-year-old Jesus Abrego Quilantan. A fourth person, 37-year-old Pedro Ruiz Jr., was arrested and charged on April 10, 2024. All four were charged with murder and held at the Webb County Jail. Authorities say the individuals were known to each other and investigators are working to clarify what led to the shooting.

Did anyone in the Laredo area see or hear anything that night that could help fill in what happened?
