On March 10, 2024, at about 3 a.m., 23-year-old Robert Scott of Groves was shot near the 700 block of Procter Street in Port Arthur and later died at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont from multiple gunshot wounds. Two other men were wounded in the same incident, one listed in critical condition on life support and the other in stable condition. The shooting occurred near the Opulence Lounge, less than a block from the Port Arthur Police Department, and was reported as the city’s first homicide of 2024.

Port Arthur police identified a person of interest who was hospitalized and said they expected to present the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges. As of March 15, 2024, no arrests had been made and the investigation remained active.
