Seventeen-year-old Myesha McCants was fatally shot on February 25, 2024, at a Motel 6 in the 3900 block of South Jack Kultgen Expressway in Waco, Texas. Officers responding to a 1:39 a.m. call found McCants with a gunshot wound; she was taken to a hospital and later died. An 18-year-old woman, Jada Millwood, was at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Witnesses said Millwood had been handling a firearm recklessly, loading and unloading it and pointing it around the room. An arrest affidavit says Millwood told officers she had the gun, turned to face McCants, and McCants grabbed the weapon, which then discharged and struck her.
Millwood was arrested at the scene and booked into the McLennan County Jail on a manslaughter charge, a second-degree felony, with bond set at $35,000. A McLennan County grand jury later indicted Millwood on the manslaughter charge and she remained in custody awaiting trial. The shooting was one of three homicides in Waco over a 48-hour period, prompting appeals from the police chief for community help in preventing more violence.
If anyone was at the motel or has information about what happened that night, please come forward.
