On December 29, 2023, at about 10:09 p.m., 34-year-old Sheikh Abir-Hossain was fatally shot during an armed robbery at Kris Food Mart, 3090 Gulf Street, Beaumont, Texas. Surveillance footage shows two masked men with semi-automatic pistols entering the store; one forced Abir-Hossain behind the counter, demanded cash, and shot him twice in the chest. The robbers fled with only a pack of cigarettes.

Abir-Hossain had moved from Bangladesh to pursue a master’s degree in business at Lamar University and worked nights at the store to support his wife and 2-year-old daughter. Multiple Crime Stoppers tips and surveillance image review led to the arrest of 19-year-old Keandre Marquis Robinson about three hours after the shooting; he was detained a few blocks from the store and investigators recovered cell phone texts between Robinson and 26-year-old Larry Nathaniel Hagan discussing the robbery and eliminating loose ends.

Anyone who knew Abir-Hossain, worked at Kris Food Mart, or has information about the shooting is urged to contact Beaumont authorities.
