Pete Gonzales Eguia, 51, was found dead on December 9, 2023, in a wooded area off Escondido Road near Helotes, Texas. A passerby who noticed a discarded shoe on the roadside investigated and discovered his body; the scene showed signs of slight decomposition and evidence the body had been dragged. The Bexar County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds, and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has classified the case as a homicide.

Eguia, a San Marcos resident and described by family as a caring father of two and a loving grandfather, had been reported missing the same day his body was found. Family members last spoke with him on December 1; his 2017 Nissan was located on December 7 with front-end damage along Apache Canyon about 23 miles from the discovery site, and neighbors last saw the vehicle on November 30. As of December 27, 2024, no arrests have been announced and investigators continue to seek tips.

If anyone has information about Pete Eguia, his damaged vehicle, or movements between November 30 and December 9, please contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
