On the evening of August 26, 2023, 36-year-old Russell Dale Crawford Shyne was fatally shot in the 800 block of Francis Street in Marshall, Texas. Officers found Shyne with a gunshot wound to his abdomen around 9 p.m.; he was taken to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center but died of his injuries.

A 40-year-old man, Tramaine Rondell Dunn, was detained at the scene in a white car, and after witness statements was arrested and charged with murder and booked into the Harrison County Jail. The shooting sparked a large altercation at the hospital involving more than 50 people described as family members of both the victim and the suspect; deputies and K9 units were called to disperse the crowd.

Marshall Police Chief Cliff Carruth offered condolences to Shyne’s family and praised the quick response that helped prevent further harm. The investigation is ongoing and authorities have not disclosed a motive. If anyone has information that could help the investigation, please come forward.
