On August 10, 2023, at about 7:20 p.m., Montgomery County Constable Precinct 5 deputies tried to stop a speeding vehicle in Magnolia, Texas. The car eventually stopped at a home in the 30900 block of Allene Drive; during the detention a passenger told deputies their father was dead inside the house, explaining the erratic driving.

Deputies entered the residence and found 67-year-old Donald Hayslip with an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later died of his injuries. Homicide and Violent Crimes Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were called to assist. Authorities have described the incident as isolated with no threat to the public; no arrests or suspects have been publicly identified and the investigation remains active.
