Jacob Hernandez, 19, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds on August 7, 2023, on the 600 block of East 34th Street in San Angelo. Officers recovered five spent .45 caliber Hornady cartridge cases at the scene, and bystander video and audio captured three gunshots and two people fleeing westbound on East 34th Street.
Investigators uncovered a heated exchange between Hernandez and 18-year-old Kristopher Lozano in text messages and Instagram messages on Hernandez’s tablet, in which Lozano suggested a physical confrontation and Hernandez replied defiantly minutes before the shooting. A Glock 36 .45 caliber handgun later recovered on the 400 block of East 23rd Street was identified as belonging to Nicholas Martinez; the handgun’s ammunition brand matched the spent cartridges from the scene. Martinez told police Lozano had been at his residence around 4 a.m. and later was charged with murder. Lozano was also arrested and charged with murder; both were indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury.
Who in the neighborhood might have seen the two men heading toward the meeting place or the handgun being moved that morning?
