On July 19, 2023, at about 11:55 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Port Arthur Townhomes in the 3500 block of Turtle Creek Drive. They found 29-year-old Jhamiah Clyde Dixon lying unresponsive in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound to his back. A Justice of the Peace pronounced Dixon dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy.
Investigators interviewed witnesses and collected evidence that led to the identification of a suspect. On July 27, 2023, 17-year-old Brandon Deion Charles Jr. was arrested at the same apartment complex. According to a probable cause affidavit, a witness provided details implicating Charles that were corroborated by scene evidence; Charles denied involvement during an interview but was charged with murder and later indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury. He is being held on a $900,000 bond pending trial.
Family and friends have held vigils and memorials, remembering Dixon as kindhearted. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. If anyone has information that could help explain what happened, please come forward.
