On June 21, 2023, at about 10:01 p.m., College Station Police responded to gunfire in the 1800 block of Potomac Place and Southwest Parkway and found two people with gunshot wounds outside a residence: 46-year-old Kelly Nicole Adams and 44-year-old Curtis Ray Dickey Jr. Both were pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts.

A neighbor, 64-year-old Charles Ray Johnson, was at the scene and taken into custody without incident. Investigators say a verbal altercation occurred between Johnson and his neighbors; Johnson told police he believed Adams and Dickey had harassed and threatened him and had tampered with his moped. He told officers he felt threatened during a confrontation that night and shot both victims multiple times. Johnson was charged with two counts of murder and booked into the Brazos County Detention Center with bond set at $800,000. The College Station Police Department continues to investigate and has asked anyone with information to come forward.

Adams was remembered by family as a devoted mother and grandmother; funeral services were held July 1, 2023, at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas. If anyone knew Kelly Adams or has information about the events that night, please share what you know.
