Darrell Lee Childers, 50, was fatally shot outside a residence in the 5900 block of County Road 308, southeast of Cleburne, on June 17, 2023. Johnson County deputies found Childers unresponsive about 5 a.m.; despite life-saving efforts he was pronounced dead at the scene. Family members say he was shot six times and have described the killing as carried out by people they considered close to him.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating. No arrests or publicly identified suspects have been reported. The family held visitation on June 22, 2023, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford, followed by a funeral service on June 23 at Spring Creek Baptist Church. Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to come forward.
