On May 23, 2023, in Nash, Texas, five-year-old Oliver Olalde was killed along with his parents, Reuben Olalde and Aida Garcia, and his adult sister, Lisbet Olalde. The family’s deaths were discovered after a co-worker of Lisbet’s visited their home on Lemon Acres when she did not show up for work. The co-worker encountered 18-year-old Cesar Olalde, who allegedly confessed to killing family members because he believed they were cannibals planning to eat him.

Law enforcement officers responded and a brief standoff followed after Cesar barricaded himself inside the residence; he later surrendered and was taken into custody. Officers found the four victims’ bodies in a bathroom and recovered multiple spent cartridge casings and blood spatter on surfaces; reports indicate the victims had been shot in various locations of the house before being moved to the bathroom. Cesar was charged with capital murder of multiple persons and capital murder of a person under 10 years of age and was held in Bowie County jail with bail set at $10 million.
