On May 10, 2023, 41-year-old Abilene resident Eric Quat Tonche was fatally shot in the 5100 block of Capitol Avenue during a confrontation involving Tonche, his associate Rolando Solis, and Marvin Jones Sr. Court documents say Solis and Tonche were in a vehicle when Jones Sr., with whom Solis had prior issues, approached them. Both men exited the vehicle and Solis engaged Jones Sr. During that confrontation, Marvin Jones Jr. emerged from a nearby residence and fired a shot toward Solis and Tonche, striking Tonche.
Emergency responders found Tonche in the street with a gunshot wound; he was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. Witnesses reported multiple gunshots and saw Jones Jr. and Jones Sr. enter a house, then exit with a child; Jones Jr. left the scene in a sedan. Police arrested 20-year-old Marvin Kyree Jones Jr. that evening and charged him with first-degree felony murder and endangering a child. He was booked on bonds totaling $605,000 and later indicted by a Taylor County Grand Jury on murder, evading arrest, and abandoning/endangering a child; his trial was scheduled to begin June 24, 2024.
Tonche’s family, who raised him and remembered him as kind and generous, expressed profound grief. Does anyone have information about Tonche, his movements that day, or witnesses to the confrontation?
