On April 15, 2023, 22-year-old Joseph Banales of Schertz, Texas, died in a single-vehicle crash in San Antonio. Around 3:25 a.m. on the 6100 block of Old Seguin Road, Banales was driving a 2018 Dodge Charger when he lost control, left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators reported that speed was a significant contributing factor and said no other vehicles or people were involved. Toxicology testing was completed but the results have not been released publicly. No arrests were made and no suspects were linked to the crash.
