A home invasion in Beaumont turned deadly in the early hours of April 10, 2023. Around 2:15 a.m. in the 1800 block of Elgie Street, a group of unknown black males forcibly entered a residence in the South Park neighborhood and gunfire was exchanged between the intruders and people inside. Two men from Beaumont were killed: 32-year-old Ahmad Hayden, pronounced dead at the scene, and 31-year-old Roven Dotson, who later died at a hospital.

Investigators said the attack was not random and that Hayden and Dotson were specifically targeted. Within days two Beaumont residents were arrested and charged: 29-year-old Dijon Ivory was arrested April 12 and charged with two counts of murder, bond set at $2 million; 30-year-old Paul Edward Westbrooks Jr. was arrested April 13 and charged with two counts of murder, bond set at $1.7 million. Both were later indicted on capital murder charges alleging their roles in the fatal invasion. The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office filed notice it would not seek capital punishment for Westbrooks as of July 2023.

The investigation remains active and law enforcement continues to gather evidence and interview witnesses. If anyone has information about the April 10 home invasion or the people involved, contact the Beaumont Police Department or Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas.
