Adam Burns, 22, was killed in the early hours of Easter morning, April 9, 2023, after an altercation that began inside The Ranch nightclub in Corpus Christi, Texas. Affidavits say Burns and 20-year-old Paul Villarreal had been arguing inside the club; both were ordered to leave after a security guard reported Burns gesturing that he was going to mess Villarreal up.
The confrontation continued outside. Villarreal left first and got into a vehicle; Burns followed in a different car that briefly pulled away and then returned. Witnesses said Burns exited his vehicle and began yelling at Villarreal, and shortly afterward three or four gunshots were heard. Police found Burns in the parking lot of an OReilly Auto Parts store on the 4800 block of Burney Drive at about 3:39 a.m.; he had multiple gunshot wounds, including four to the abdomen, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two days later Villarreal surrendered and was charged with murder, held on a $1,000,000 bond; investigators reported the men were known to each other and shared mutual friends. A candlelight vigil at Cole Park drew a large crowd of family and friends who remembered Burns as loving and uplifting.
If anyone has information about the events that night or knew Adam, please share what might help the investigation.
