On April 8, 2023, 15-year-old Cesar Christopher Trochez-Maravilla and 14-year-old Adiel Garcia Aguirre were found dead inside a vehicle near County Roads 5260 and 5200 in the Santa Fe subdivision south of Plum Grove, Texas. Autopsies determined both teens suffered multiple gunshot wounds. A resident discovered the car running and in drive about 3 p.m., roughly 50 to 60 feet from a group mailbox; the vehicle had come to rest in a muddy area off the main road, suggesting the occupants tried to flee after the shooting.

Both victims lived near the scene and had recently left Santa Fe Middle School to be homeschooled. Liberty County investigators have interviewed potential witnesses, including former classmates, and say the area has experienced gang activity though no connection to this case has been confirmed. No arrests or public identifications of suspects have been announced and the investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 936-336-4500 or Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867).
