Martin William Davis, 61, was fatally shot outside his residence in the 1600 block of Waco Street in Gatesville, Texas, on the evening of March 26, 2023. Davis had returned from a trip to H-E-B and was unloading groceries when three individuals approached him near his open front door; one of the suspects fired the fatal shot and all three fled on foot.

Investigators made arrests in the months after the killing. On July 20, 2023, 21-year-old Shawn Michael Smith-Brearey of Temple was apprehended after indictment by a Coryell County Grand Jury. Trevor Lovell Ford, 32, of Gatesville was also served with a murder warrant while already in custody on unrelated charges. In January 2024, 34-year-old Scott Allen Harkcom of Gatesville was indicted by a Coryell County Grand Jury and served with the indictment warrant while in custody on an unrelated charge.

The Gatesville Police Department, Texas Rangers, and the Coryell County District Attorney’s Office are handling the investigation; authorities say the case remains open as they work to hold all responsible parties accountable.
