David Silva, 44, was fatally shot at his Weslaco, Texas, residence in the early hours of February 10, 2023. Hidalgo County deputies answered reports of gunfire shortly after midnight in the 2100 block of Esperanza Street and found Silva with multiple gunshot wounds; he died at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

Witnesses at the scene identified 15-year-old Mauricio Mata as the shooter, and investigators obtained an arrest warrant charging him with murder. Authorities described Mata as armed and dangerous and said he might be driving a dark-colored SUV and could be accompanied by his juvenile brother, who was named a person of interest.
