On the afternoon of December 13, 2024, officers responded to a reported shooting at the Woodbend Apartments on Waverly Parkway in Opelika. They found 43-year-old Marquet Devon Turk Sr. with gunshot wounds; emergency medical technicians attempted lifesaving aid but Turk Sr. was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:54 p.m. His body was scheduled for autopsy at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Montgomery Medical Facility.

Investigators identified the alleged shooter as Turk Sr.’s son, 23-year-old Marquet Devon Turk Jr. With assistance from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Montgomery Police Department, Turk Jr. was located and arrested in Montgomery and charged with his father’s murder; he was transported to the Lee County Jail.
