Denis Patrick Carmody, 63, was found dead from a gunshot wound in front of his Punta Gorda home at about 1:00 a.m. on December 2, 2024. Deputies at 16045 Nasturtium Drive determined the fatal bullet came from Carmody’s own chrome .38 caliber revolver. Forensic testing by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement matched the bullet to that firearm and found Tiffany Diann May’s DNA on the gun.

Witnesses told investigators May, 37, had asked to fire Carmody’s revolver and that the two went to a corner of the property where about three shots were heard. May was located later that day and arrested on unrelated charges; on December 13, 2024 she was charged with second-degree murder and held without bond pending trial. Carmody, known as Doc among local motorcycle groups, was remembered for his generosity and community involvement; an online memorial has been created.

Anyone with information about what happened that night is asked to contact the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
