A domestic dispute in Douglas, Georgia, on the morning of December 10, 2024, ended with a father dead and his son charged in the shooting. Just before 2:00 a.m., officers responding to a home in the 100 block of Park Place Road found 45-year-old Israel Rivera Cruz deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. His wife, 31-year-old Jasmine Gonzalez, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was treated at a local hospital before being released.

Investigators report that an argument between Rivera Cruz and Gonzalez escalated. Their 17-year-old son, Miguel Gonzalez, intervened and approached his father with a firearm. A struggle over the weapon occurred; Miguel reportedly regained control and shot his father several times, and Jasmine Gonzalez was struck unintentionally during the altercation. Miguel Gonzalez was arrested at the scene and booked on charges of aggravated assault, felony murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The body was sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and the investigation remains ongoing.
