On December 26, 2024, at about 6 p.m., Park Forest police forced entry into a home on the 300 block of Miami Street and found two unresponsive women with apparent gunshot wounds. The 51-year-old woman, Lillian K. Brown, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 30-year-old woman, identified as Sabrina McCain, was taken to a local hospital and later died of her injuries. Two unharmed children were also at the residence and were taken to hospitals for evaluation as a precaution.

Investigators describe the event as an isolated incident and say the victims and the suspect were acquainted, but no arrests or publicly identified suspects have been announced. The Park Forest Police Department is working with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit on the ongoing investigation.
