A shooting on December 8, 2024, in Matteson, Illinois, left two young men dead. Around 2 p.m. in the 4300 block of Oakwood Lane, a residential area near the Matteson Area Public Library, officers found a male victim with gunshot wounds; he was taken to Franciscan Health Olympia Fields and pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner later identified that victim as 20-year-old Antoine Brown of East Chicago, Indiana, and ruled the cause of death a gunshot wound to the chest, classifying it a homicide.

A second male, identified as 19-year-old Jaequan White of Chicago, had been driven to Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest and also died of multiple gunshot wounds, a homicide as well. Authorities say circumstances leading up to the shooting are unclear, and no information on suspects or motives has been released. The Matteson Police Department and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating and say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
