Ben Hall Jr., 44, was shot and later died after an incident in Paducah on the evening of Sunday, December 22, 2024. Police were called about 5:41 p.m. to the intersection of North 8th and Campbell Streets and found Hall in the street with two gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Officers rendered first aid and he was taken to a local hospital, then transferred out of state, but died the next night on Monday, December 23. The Paducah Police Department reclassified the investigation from assault to homicide after his death.

Detectives identified 21-year-old Dorian M. Lewis as the shooter; he was at the scene when officers arrived and was arrested and initially charged with first-degree assault. After Hall’s death the charge was amended to murder. At a January 2025 preliminary hearing a judge dismissed the murder charge for lack of probable cause. A Paducah Police detective testified that Lewis had acted to defend a woman who, the detective said, reported Hall had assaulted her immediately before the shooting; Lewis was released after the dismissal.

Are there witnesses or additional information about what happened at North 8th and Campbell that evening?
