Gene Arthur Dares, a 46-year-old man, was shot and killed on Foss Street in Biddeford, Maine, on September 27, 2024. Police were called for reports of gunfire at about 10:53 p.m.; officers found Dares with gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy listed multiple gunshot wounds as the cause of death and the case was investigated as a homicide.
Investigators say the killing was staged to look like a drug deal. First responders reported Dares’ pockets turned inside out and a backpack with drug paraphernalia nearby. Authorities allege Linda Lambert arranged the meeting at her Foss Street home and that Garret Labonte carried out the shooting. Prosecutors charged Labonte with murder, felony murder, and robbery; Lambert was charged with felony murder and robbery. Police say Lambert bought the firearm for Labonte because he was prohibited from owning one; the weapon was discarded in the Saco River and later recovered. Both suspects, long-time Biddeford residents with lengthy criminal histories, were held at the York County Jail and were scheduled for an initial court appearance on October 30, 2024.
Does anyone have information about Dares’ movements that night or the people involved?
