On November 28, 2024, Caron Lamont Means, 20, was shot and killed around 2:45 p.m. in the unit block of Hawthorne Avenue in Pikesville, a residential area near Reisterstown Road. Baltimore County Police found Means with a gunshot wound and he was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives opened a thorough investigation and characterized the shooting as isolated, saying there was no active threat to the community. Investigators did not immediately release a suspect description or a motive, and as of early December 2024 no arrests had been announced.
