On December 1, 2024, at about 8:40 a.m., officers in Salisbury, North Carolina, found a vehicle that had run off the road into a stand of trees and brush near the 1800 block of West 3rd Street. Inside were 20-year-old Shamarion Nyjeic Hooker and 21-year-old Skylar Mackey, both with gunshot wounds; both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators identified a male who fled on foot and, by December 5, had arrested a juvenile male in connection with the double homicide. Because the suspect is a minor, his name has not been released. He faces two counts of murder and a charge of shooting into an occupied vehicle and was taken to a secure detention facility. Authorities, assisted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, have not disclosed a motive and continue to seek information.
Shamarion Hooker, born January 1, 2004, in Rowan County, was remembered at a viewing on December 16 and buried at Byers Cemetery. He is survived by parents Tracy Hooker and Gregory Seymour, sisters and extended family. Does anyone who knew Shamarion or who was in the West 3rd Street area that morning have information to share with investigators?
