A shooting on December 1, 2024, in the 1800 block of West 3rd Street near D Avenue in Salisbury, North Carolina, left two people dead. Officers arriving at about 8:40 a.m. found a vehicle that had veered off the roadway into dense trees and brush; inside were 21-year-old Skylar Mackey and 20-year-old Shamarion Hooker, both suffering fatal gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified and located a male juvenile suspect within a few days and arrested him on December 5, 2024. Detectives charged the juvenile with two counts of murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle; he was taken to a secure juvenile detention center. Investigators say a male suspect fled the scene after the shooting, and the circumstances leading up to the incident remain under investigation. Some reports have suggested an exchange of gunfire between Mackey and Hooker, but family members, including Mackey’s father, dispute that and say Mackey did not fire a weapon.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Salisbury Police to assist the ongoing investigation.
