On November 25, 2024, at about 12:25 p.m. Greensboro police found the body of 18-year-old Samad T. Johnson Jr. down an embankment off the side of Yanceyville Road near Kingfisher Trail. He had suffered at least one gunshot wound. No suspects or arrests have been announced and the investigation is ongoing.

Family and friends describe Samad as funny, lovable, and kind, with a passion for music. Several relatives gathered at the location where his body was found to release balloons and call for justice; his aunt Jeanelle Williams said she was devastated. A memorial service for Samad T. Johnson II is scheduled for December 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Community Funeral Home Chapel in Greensboro.
