On the night of May 3, 2022, 16-year-old Tykendrick Bradford was fatally shot while standing in front of a home on the 600 block of South Walnut Street in Hope, Arkansas. Hope Police officers responding around midnight found Bradford with an apparent gunshot wound; he was taken to Wadley Hospital and later pronounced dead. Witnesses described shots coming from a passing vehicle in what appeared to be a drive-by shooting.
Bradford was a student at Hope High School and remembered for his big smile and meek spirit; he enjoyed playing basketball with friends on his street and video games. The school district arranged for extra counselors and social workers after his death. Two days after the shooting, on May 5, 2022, police arrested 18-year-old Bryceston J. Marks of Bryant, Arkansas, and charged him with first-degree murder, a terroristic act, and four counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle. Marks was held at the Hempstead County Detention Facility pending further court action.
