A sudden shooting on Cherry Street in Helena ended with the death of 50-year-old Cornelius Borum. On a Friday evening around 9:30 p.m., Borum was on the front porch of a home in the 1000 block when he was struck by gunfire, sustaining a wound to his back. He was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to Regional One Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, where he died on April 9, 2022.

The Helena-West Helena Police Department is treating the case as a homicide and has identified an unnamed person of interest, but no arrests have been announced. Investigators have asked the community to provide any information that could lead to those responsible.
