On the evening of February 9, 2022, a shooting on Park Place in Pine Bluff, Arkansas left 27-year-old Miguel Hoyt dead. Police found Hoyt inside a white Dodge Challenger on the street after reports of gunfire at about 7:30 p.m.; he had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene by the county deputy coroner. His death was recorded as the city’s fourth homicide that year.

Investigators initially had no suspects and appealed to the public for information. In the weeks after the killing, police identified an 18-year-old, Herbert Pam III, as a person wanted in connection with the case and obtained a warrant charging him with Capital Murder, Terroristic Act, and Aggravated Assault. Herbert Pam III turned himself in to Pine Bluff police shortly after 10 a.m. on March 15, 2022.
