Gregorio Aguilar, 51, was found with a gunshot wound early on November 29, 2016, on the 2500 block of North Lavergne Avenue in Chicago’s Cragin neighborhood, about a block from his home on the 5000 block of West Deming Street. Officers answered a person down call at 1:32 a.m.; Aguilar was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. The Cook County medical examiner ruled his death a homicide from multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting occurred on a quiet, residential stretch of the Northwest Side; responding units secured the scene as detectives searched pavement and gutters and neighbors watched from nearby windows. Initial reports contained no description of an assailant and no arrest was announced, with authorities stating only that detectives were investigating a fatal shooting on that block.
