Cameron Johnson, 32, was found dead in his vehicle at an apartment complex on Deane Street in Fayetteville in the early morning hours of December 13, 2020. Police discovered he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say he likely was leaving his residence at the time of the shooting and the incident was treated as a homicide.

The Fayetteville Police Department secured the scene and opened an in-depth investigation. In the days after the killing authorities described the probe as active and ongoing, and reported no suspect had been identified. The family and community continue to seek answers about who was responsible and why.
