Clifton James ’C.J.’ Jolley, 27, was fatally shot on Garnett Road near Monticello in Drew County, Arkansas, in the late afternoon of August 8, 2020. Deputies were dispatched after a report at about 3:17 p.m. and found Jolley deceased at the scene. He worked as a pipeliner and heavy equipment operator, enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding four-wheelers, and was of the Baptist faith.

Investigators detained two people shortly after the shooting: 50-year-old Bobby D. Adams and his 25-year-old daughter Elizabeth Bailey Adams. Both were booked into the Drew County Jail on suspicion of murder but were released without bond the next day and no formal charges had been filed at that time. Jolley’s body was sent to the state crime lab for autopsy and the sheriff’s office described the investigation as active.
