On the afternoon of Friday, October 25, 2019, 19-year-old Pedro Pena was shot in the neck at a residence on Eaglecrest Circle in Springdale, Arkansas. He was taken to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale but died from the wound.
At the scene officers encountered 18-year-old Fernando Ortiz and later located three other young men who had been present but had left before police arrived. Investigators concluded Ortiz had been handling a firearm when it discharged while he was playing with it, and the bullet struck Pena. The weapon recovered at the residence was identified as a firearm reported stolen in Springdale in June 2019.
Ortiz was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including manslaughter, aggravated assault, and theft by receiving a firearm. Does anyone have information about the people who were at the residence that afternoon or about the stolen firearm?
