Clifton McDowell was 24 when he was shot and killed in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, on the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2019. Police found him lying in the street at the intersection of Iris Street and Howard Drive; he was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center and died during surgery. His death was reported as Pine Bluff’s 11th homicide of 2019.

A suspect, 21-year-old Tony Warren, was identified and arrested shortly after in connection with the case. Warren was initially stopped on unrelated drug and firearm charges; investigators recovered a cellphone that they believed linked him to the shooting and placed him near the scene, contradicting his claim he had been in Little Rock.

In early 2020 a circuit judge suppressed the cellphone evidence after the defense successfully argued the search warrant was written to seek drug-related materials and was too broad for a homicide probe. The case file does not detail what happened next.

If anyone knew Clifton’s movements that day or has information about the shooting, please share what is known.
