Robert Newman, 20, known to family and friends as RJ, was fatally shot in West Helena on September 12, 2017. His death came during a violent 24-hour period in Helena that included at least one other homicide, heightening community shock and grief.

Newman’s passing was publicly mourned with an obituary and a memorial page, but the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear. The other victim from that same period, Diquan Henry, is listed as unsolved by the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office.
